Charles Bukowski was an alcoholic, a womanizer and a gambler.

He would hang out in bars all day, get into fistfights, and consume even more alcohol for an evening writing. He was a violent storyteller, an underground writer, a controversialist, and a dirty realist.

But he spoke his truth.

In 1986, Time called Bukowski a “laureate of American lowlife”.

Bukowski drew his inspiration from real-life experiences and emotions. He wrote poetry and prose that shed more light on the moral corruption of urban life and the underprivileged in American society.
